About the role: 

We are looking for a Medic & Emergency Services Officer to join the team on site working on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth. You will be responsible for the delivery and continuous improvement of on-site emergency medical services, injury management, and emergency preparedness systems in line with Western Australian mining safety and emergency management expectations. This position delivers a dual service by coordinating 24-hour rapid emergency response capability and contributing to a safe and healthy working environment for all employees. The MESO ensures that Focus Minerals meets and wherever practicable, exceeds legislative requirements and industry best practice.

 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Managing site medical and emergency response capability (including on-call hours from designated camp accommodation) to ensure compliance with legislative, organisational and industry requirements.
  • Ensuring all medical, emergency response and rescue equipment is procured, maintained, inspected, and stored in accordance with manufacturer specifications and relevant standards.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and documentation in accordance with company requirements.
  • Providing leadership, coordination, and hands-on response during medical and emergency incidents.
  • Delivering emergency medical assessment and treatment within the approved scope of practice.
  • Coordinating medical referrals, evacuations and external emergency service support as required.
  • Managing injury management and return-to-work processes, including early intervention, suitable duties planning and workers’ compensation coordination.
  • Supporting site WHS compliance through advice, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Maintaining accurate WHS, medical and emergency records and reporting obligations.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of health education programs for employees and contractors.
  • Coordinate emergency response drills.
  • Support, train, mentor and develop the Emergency Response team.
  • Coordinate Fitness for Work programs and drug and alcohol testing programs across the sites.

 

Qualifications, Skills & Experience: 

  • Certificate III in Mines Rescue & Certificate IV in Health Care (or higher) is essential.
  • Minimum 5 years working in Mining, Oil and Gas, or Construction industries.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) qualification or willingness to obtain.
  • HLTPAT005 Authorised Specimens for Drug of Abuse Certification is essential.
  • Current HR Drivers Licence.
  • Driving under operational conditions.
  • Sound knowledge of WHS legislation and regulatory requirements (federal and state).
  • Strong capability in emergency response leadership and medical decision-making.
  • Ability to operate effectively at both tactical and operational levels.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Ability to work autonomously, flexibly and under pressure.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
