About the role: 

 

We are looking for an experienced Work Health and Safety Advisor to provide advice, technical expertise, and support for Focus Minerals operations on all WHS issues by implementing systems and maintaining procedures and processes that support the Focus WHS Strategic Plan.

 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Ensure that WHS accountabilities and commitments are understood by employees and contractors.
  • Review WHS documentation such as principal mining hazard management plans / procedures / risk assessments.
  • Maintenance of a WHS system that meets the organizational requirements and is positively received and utilized by FML Management and employees .
  • Providing WHS service and support to all areas of the business based at CGO.
  • Ensure Hazards are identified, and the associated risks are assessed and effectively managed.
  • Conduct risk reviews based on external information (bulletins from regulators etc).
  • Assisting the Emergency Response Team.
  • Incident review and leading of significant Investigations (ICAM).
  • Conduct internal LGIRS HIF audits and contractor management audits to assess compliance and drive improvement.
  • Support critical control verification and assurance programs.
  • Support the maintenance of operational risk registers and oversee corrective actions, regularly reviewing the effectiveness of controls.
  • Maintaining alcohol and drug testing procedures and processes and fatigue management programs.
  • Initial injury and illness management procedures.
  • Site access, induction and contractor management.

 

Qualifications, Skills & Experience: 

  • Diploma qualification in Work Health and Safety or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years working in Mining, Oil and Gas, or Construction industries.
  • Medical/ Emergency response qualifications are desirable. 
  • Training in Underground Search and Rescue (including BG4 training) is desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant WHS legal and other requirements (Federal and state).
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction in the WHS field.
  • The ability to work at both tactical and operational levels.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing and can consistently demonstrate strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to influence and/or persuade others.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
