Senior Mining Engineer - Open Pit

About the role: 

Focus Minerals is currently seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to join them on a 8 days on / 6 days off roster based on site. You will be responsible for providing technical engineering advice, planning and methodology to the mine.

 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Develop short, medium and long-term mine plans to guide operations.
  • Review mining methods and equipment to identify opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Prepare detailed drilling and blasting plans to ensure efficient resource extraction.
  • Provide technical input into mine design, waste dump planning, infrastructure and other mining-related activities.
  • Optimise pit design for maximum resource recovery and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor and analyse mining costs to support effective budgeting and cost control.
  • Manage mining and ore haulage contracts to ensure compliance and productivity.
  • Maintain and enforce mine safety standards across all activities.
  • Achieve targeted production levels through effective planning and execution.
  • Implement grade control strategies to maintain ore quality.
  • Prepare monthly reports, forecast and submit end-of-month progress claims.
  • Provide general engineering and technical support to mining operations.
  • Supervise and mentor junior professionals and technical staff.

 

 Qualifications, Skills & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering.
  • Possession of a First Class Quarry Manager’s Ticket.
  • At least five years’ experience in the mining industry, specifically within open pit operations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Vulcan and Alastri mining software is highly regarded.
  • Strong dedication to Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
